LOHO adult family home seeking residents
By Colleen Smith

Construction of the adult family home portion of The Hamlet on Lopez, a residential and care facility for senior citizens, is well underway.

The Lopez Housing Options (LOHO) project, which is located across from the Post Office, includes an adult family home with 24-hour supervised care, 14 cottages (for both independent and semi-independent living), and a common building, where Hamlet seniors can socialize. Occupancy is set at approximately 30 people.

There are six spaces available in the adult family home, and LOHO is getting ready to accept residents for a move-in date of December 2007. There will be an informational meeting for potential residents on Monday, August 27, 2-4 p.m. at Lopez Library. Interested parties and their families are encouraged to attend. To live in The Hamlet, you must be a Lopez resident for at least two years, or have recently moved off the island because of lack of housing and available care.

On the LOHO website, there is a wish list for the adult family home and a gift registry to Linen N' Things and Target for those who would like to make a donation. LOHO is also looking for a live-in house manager and 24-hour caregivers for the adult home.

Construction of the cottages will break ground in August, and LOHO expects them ready for occupancy by the summer of 2008. Four of the spots have been filled -- applications are being accepted right now for the remaining cottages.

For more information about applying for a residence or a job position, stop by the LOHO office in back of the Fishbay Building (468-2620) or call Tytti Langford at 468-4015 or Nancy Luebke at 468-4208. You can also visit the website, www.loho.org.
